On Tuesday, February 9th we celebrate #SaferInternetDay. Since 2004, this day marks the occasion to globally come together to promote a safe and responsible use of digital technologies, to inspire an international conversation on the importance of digital safety and to make the internet a safer and better place for all, especially children and young people.
It seems fitting that this year’s theme is reliability online and how we can work together to create #AnInternetWeTrust. Our values at EDAA are no stranger to this vital objective. The core of our work has always been to focus on greater transparency and education in digital advertising. However, this has become increasingly important over the past year. With the recent release of our educational resource in collaboration with Media Smart UK on How to manage your online ad experience, we are aware, now more than ever, of the importance in providing and promoting resources that work towards educating consumers, with a particular focus on younger generations; on students. Our resource aims to provide the information and tools necessary to teach young individuals about how to understand and manage the ads they see online. With videos, classroom activities, and teacher guidance, our learning resource allows students to make sense of the digital advertising world around them.
In the age of COVID-19, children and young people are spending an increasing amount of time online. This has made apparent the need for learning resources ensuring our future generations know how to remain safe and responsible online and how to navigate the digital advertising ecosystem. However, for this to become a realty, we, along with the wider digital advertising industry, must not forget to work together for #AnInternetWeTrust.
